Psalm medley - by James Archer

This is a consolidated psalm drawn from verses from many of the them.  Feel free to write your own version.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my sighing.

Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray

How long, O Lord?  Will you forget me for ever?  How long will you hide your face from me?

Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; o Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony.

I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts –

men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.

Arise, o Lord!  Deliver me, o my God!

For you have struck all my enemies on the jaw; you have broken the teeth of the wicked.

May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame;

may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay.

Let death take my enemies by surprise;

let them go down alive to the grave, for evil finds lodging among them.

On no account let them escape; in your anger, o God, bring down the nations.

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man?

Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”

Does he who implanted the ear not hear?  Does he who formed the eye not see?

From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet.

You have rejected us, o God, and burst forth upon us; you have been angry – now restore us!

You have made us a reproach to our neighbours, the scorn and derision of those around us.

Do not hold against us the sins of our fathers;

may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth;

give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

I have set the Lord always before me.  Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

You are my hiding-place;

you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, o Lord, the God of truth.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;

But God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.

In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.

Offer right sacrifices and trust in the Lord.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:

he will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

all who follow his precepts have good understanding.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man;

it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?

Your love, o Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Worship the Lord in the splendour of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.

You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.

The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back; the mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.

I will praise you, o Lord, with all of my heart; I will tell of your wonders

For you make me glad by your deeds, o Lord; I sing for joy at the work of your hands.

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our maker.

Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who minister by night in the house of the Lord.

Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary?  Who may live on your holy hill?

He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous.

If you, o Lord, kept a record of sins, o Lord, who could stand?

You know my folly, o God; my guilt is not hidden from you.

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.

Create in me a pure heart, o God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

I love you, o Lord, my strength.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, o God.

Find rest, o my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall lack nothing

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.

O my strength, I sing praise to you; you, o God, are my fortress, my loving God.

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you.

My soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Why are you downcast, o my soul?  Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my saviour and my God.

Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.

How lovely is your dwelling-place, o Lord Almighty!  My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

I will sing of the Lord’s great love for ever;

with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness through all generations.

You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.

The streams of God are filled with water, to provide the people with corn, for so you have ordained it.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures for ever.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.”

If I forget you, o Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.

The Lord reigns for ever; your God, o Zion, for all generations.

Let Israel rejoice in their maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their king.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no-one can fathom.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth; burst into jubilant song together.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.

Praise the Lord, o my soul; all my inmost being praise his holy name.

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.

The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us.

Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.

Let all the people say “Amen”.  Hallelujah!
